Dutch New Worlds – Urban Design Scenarios in the Netherlands, 1970-2000

The research traces emergence, development, and impact of the scenario method in Dutch urban design. Hypothetical, narrative, and vivid urban design scenarios ranged from elaborate interdisciplinary studies to provocative design sketches. Despite their debatable effect, such comprehensive spatial images of the future proliferated in an uncertain and increasingly communicative planning environment. Dissertation research by Christian Salewski, Institute for Urban Design (supported by HGIS Culture Fund/The Netherlands Architecture Fund).
