Ride Comfort Assessment for Automated Vehicles Utilizing a Road Surface Model and Monte Carlo Simulations

Increased travel with automated vehicles (AVs) in the future requires that we ensure that the ride is comfortable for its passengers.

A substantial influence on comfort are the vertical oscillations that are experienced, which are heightened by rough road surfaces. This paper develops a methodology with which to evaluate comfort for passengers of AVs and presents a case study to illustrate the proposed framework application.
