The future city cannot be built using today’s resources; nor is urban sustainability a matter of universal rules. Rather, sustainability requires a decentralized approach that both acknowledges the global dimension and is sensitive to local characteristics. The Assistant Professorship applies this thinking through its research on alternative materials and their application in specific contextual settings, taking into account the availability of materials, human resource capacities, and skills.
